My sessions are informative, interesting, exploratory, experimental, casual, and conversational. I specialize in creating a language immersion environment for kids, teens, and adults to improve their conversational Mandarin (speaking and listening). I work with individual students, especially homeschooled kids and parents to design his/her/their learning and review material.
I use Anki, a free and open-source flashcard program. It uses techniques from cognitive science such as active recall testing and spaced repetition to aid the user in memorization. The name comes from the Japanese word for "memorization" to make flashcards after each session for him, her, and them. For advanced learners, I summarize our conversations in a well-written short paragraph using phrases, grammar, and sentence structures to help students review. On top of that, I make audio recordings for students to play back.
I have a liberal arts education background with double majors in Art History and Philosophy. I am passionate about education, arts/design, ethics, current affairs, other big ideas. I completed middle school in Taipei, Taiwan. I have lived in the States since 2009.
My mission is to connect non-Chinese speakers to the Chinese-speaking world and Chinese speakers to the English-speaking world. What makes my service unique? I include daily conversation, art, culture, and current affairs, and YOUR life projects in OUR sessions.
